Outstanding Steps of Progress

As a school, we have a firm belief that every student can achieve their God-given talents with hard work and dedication. It is as a direct result of this belief that all students at The King's have the same aspirational target in every subject they study - to make outstanding steps of progress.

We are aware that a student's realisation of their talents does not happen overnight; it happens little by little, day by day. We actively encourage students to push themselves to be the best that they can be and in return, teaching staff seek to provide those serendipitous learning experiences that will facilitate them on this journey. The image below shows how teachers will mark your child’s work:

Each time a teacher marks a key piece of work they provide your child with a progress judgement. Progress judgements are indicated by a simple coloured sticker system. Over time, these provide a profile of your child’s progress in any given subject and inform the holistic judgement provided on your child’s termly reports.

For example, flicking through a student’s exercise book that reveals the following progress judgements over a terms work –

- would support an overall progress judgement of ‘excellent progress’. One can see that there have been units of work where progress was really strong (blue and red stickers) and one unit of work where progress was poor (N grade).

The inbuilt power of progress judgements is that whilst an overall judgement is made, students can see their strengths and weaknesses and therefore target their energies intelligently to improve their performance to make even greater gains.
