“Language is the road map of a culture, it tells you where its people come from and where they are going” - Rita Mae Brown
Studying French at The King’s aims to ignite a curiosity and love of languages and other cultures. Through a focus on both culture and communication, the French department aims to foster a passion for exploring a foreign language where we challenge students to take risks, have a go and learn from their mistakes.
The French course aims to develop the students’ linguistic competence, initially via listening and speaking and then reading and writing.
French students are challenged by authentic target language materials where appropriate such as signage, leaflets, literary extracts and films to combine exposure to francophone culture as well as enhancing language and problem-solving skills.
Perhaps most importantly, language learning at The King’s intends to broaden students’ horizons and their understanding of their place within the world. Through studying French and having the opportunity to join our trips abroad, students will see the benefits of travelling the world; ensuring they have the means to communicate and have enjoyable, life changing experiences.
