Design & Technology
“Design is a funny word, some people think design means how it looks, but of course, if you dig deeper, its about how it works” - Steve Jobs
Design and Technology helps to prepare young people to participate confidently and successfully in an increasingly technological world. Students will gain an awareness and learn from wider influences on Design and Technology including historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic factors.
Through the exploration of technical, designing and making principles, including a broad range of design processes, materials techniques and equipment, students will have the opportunity to study specialist technical principles which help to contextualise the world of Design and Technology.
Students benefit from the study of Design and Technology in a range of ways, not only does this subject allow them to be creative but they learn, across a range of subjects including maths, science, geography, history and ICT. They learn how to be aware, considerate and understanding of the needs of others, the varying approaches when considering people of different cultures and faiths and how this can impact on the design and manufacturing of goods.
