Community Involvement

The Kings CE (A) School is a Community Focused School. We believe that community links are important for student development and that the community can also benefit from our involvement. We aim to build on close community relationships and initiatives already established as well as develop new links, particularly with local businesses and organisations.

Our Fundraising

Our students are very active in their fund raising activities for charities. Regular events in the school range from non uniform day, cake baking, activities on Red Nose Day and Children in Need.  As well as supporting global charities we also raise funds for those much closer to home such as The Donna Louise Trust and Douglas Mc Millan Hospice.

Our Community Work

All students in Year 7 and 8 learn how to recycle and the importance of the local environment  working closely with Newcastle Borough Council to carry out weekly litter picks in the school grounds and Clough Hall Park.  As well as improving the area by removing litter many of our students have been involved in planting projects in and around the town and 80 Year 8 students spent the day in Bathpool Park last year cutting back invasive weeds.

In year 9, all students are given the opportunity to gain some invaluable work experience in local care homes and primary schools.  The feedback from this experience is excellent both from the students and the organisations that support us.

Our 6th Form

Sixth formers are encouraged to ‘give something back’ to the school and the local community and this has grown year by year. We have a peer support programme in place whereby the older students will read to and support students in Year 7, many have gone to spend time with OAP’s in the area, carried out improvements in Kidsgrove  alongside NBC or have simply raised money through making and selling things at various times during the school year.  A highlight of the calendar are the Christmas events when a range of activities take place including invitations to the local care home residents to attend a slap up Christmas Dinner, bag packing and carol singing to raise money for local charities and carol concerts in the Kidsgrove area.

Get Involved

We are always keen to hear from local groups or individuals about any events we can contribute to as a way of helping the students of our school to improve the area in which we live.  If you would like to become involved in any aspect of our community work, or have any ideas please contact the school reception – we look forward to hearing from you and what we can do to help Kidsgrove and its residents.

Community Computing Club

Our school technicians will continue to run the very successful Computing Club on Thursday afternoons in the Summer term 2017.   Paul or Oliver would be happy to talk to anyone wishing to take part and will try to tailor a computing session to meet your needs.  If you fancy coming along please let the school reception know your details and we will contact you as soon as possible.
